BLDG 3000 Architectural technology | Term Project: pender island get-away
The task was to design a 3600SF house for two families to be shared giving each their private space, and a communal space on an existing waterfront site with a challenging topography. The design solution developed around providing a main house with all the communal services and a cottage with 3 bed/ 2 bath for the second family. Given this objective, the courtyard in the middle could function both as tying the spaces together and providing a large glazing front that will both provide ocean views and daylighting to the inner sides of the main house. Since placing the house right at the edge of the site to take advantage of the dramatic cliff to the ocean, the setback line was used as a design feature for the house. Since no desks or balconies were possible to go beyond the setback line as per zoning bylaws, the outside was brought in using Nanawall glass assembly along the front face.
